Climate Change and Shell's Response
In the coming 50 years, global energy demand will likely double as the population grows and increasing numbers improve their living standards. However, the reality of climate change is upon us and we will need to deliver all this energy with only half of today’s CO2 emissions. Twice the energy with half the CO2 is a challenge for us all. The talk will review the climate challenge, the energy challenge and Shell's early steps in this journey.

Biography
Bill Spence is Vice President CO2 at Shell. Having graduated with an Engineering Physics degree from Queen’s University in Canada, Bill joined the Exploration and Production business in Shell Canada in 1984, initially spending five years there as a Petroleum Engineer specializing in Petrophysics. In 1989 he joined Shell International, firstly in The Hague, followed by assignments in Turkey, and Aberdeen, assuming both engineering and commercial roles. In 2001 Bill began a three-year assignment as Innovation Manager with Shell Gas & Power in London, before returning to Exploration and Production’s GameChanger team in Rijswijk. Bill became Vice President of CO2 in 2005.
